“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain’t you. You’re better than that!” – Rocky Balboa
I found this quote because a friend of mine had it on his Facebook page. It was a status posted by University of Cincinnati President Santa Ono. I immediately had to figure out a way to use it.
We all have days. People can get to us. Life can get to us. We feel defeated. We feel knocked down. Maybe today just is not your day.
Sound like a day you may have had recently? Yeah, well, we all feel your pain.
The easy move is to give up, throw in the towel, or raise the white flag. But, we were not made to take the easy way out. We must find a way to work through it or work around it.
That may mean taking a few more punches. We may take a few steps backwards before we feel as though we can move forward. We may fall a few more times or the steps we take may not be quite as far forward as we would like.
If we let the world and other people win, we will get trampled. People are lined up to watch you fail. They are there to point out your flaws and kick you while you are down. Negativity is the hallmark characteristic of these people.
My challenge to you is this: Get up, kick the dust off, and get back to work. Take another step forward–no matter how big or small that step may be. The important thing is to just keep going. Persist. Be relentless.
Life is not fair. So, what?
Find someone who will help you get it off your chest, then get over it. Move on. Create solutions instead of complaints. Figure it out, and do not dwell on it. Learn from it to be better because of it.
Because tomorrow is a new day, a clean slate, a fresh start, and you are better than that.
Bring your best today!
