Lauren recommended I read a book with her a few years ago. The book was called The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. In essence, the book was a story of her yearlong personal quest to find more peace in her life and attempt to discover happiness.
What I learned from reading that book is that there is no set formula for happiness. No “follow these (insert any random number here) steps and you will be happy and successful.” Those things are all up to you and your own personal definitions for each.
The other thing I realized is that we must make time to do the things we love. We get pulled in so many different directions throughout the week that sometimes we need to take a break. However, as we long for the weekend as our refuge, it arrives and we find ourselves constantly stressing to get everything finished or even have time to just relax.
When was the last time you took a nap? Have you read a book for fun lately? Are you all caught up on that favorite TV show? Do you just want to get out and take a walk to enjoy nature but find you have no time?
These things are all attainable for everyone. We just need to be intentional about it, and do what we love. Why wouldn’t we want to spend time doing something we love every week, or even every day?
In order to practice what we preach, we have made the joint decision to no longer have daily posts on Sunday. This is our intentional way of taking our Sunday to have some personal time. Perhaps, one of us will have a thought on a future Sunday too good not to share and will do so, but for now our plan is to use the time we would write to do whatever we want–more time with family, leisure reading, naps, playing with toys, staring out a window, or whatever else floats our boat.
We are still passionately committed to sharing our vision to be our best each and every day. We believe that using this time for ourselves will allow us to be more rejuvenated each week to share our thoughts with you. We thank you for all of your continued support of short_hOPTIMISM.
Just as we are planning to do, we encourage you to take a personal day (or at least, take some time for yourself) during the week. Enjoy nature, enjoy life, enjoy doing nothing. Take time to bask in the good life you have and soak it all in. Whatever it is, do something that you love every week, if not every day.
