I read a story once in the book InsideOut Coaching by Joe Ehrmann (a book that I highly highly recommend).
A lacrosse team was losing 7-3 at halftime after playing a really sluggish first half. The opposing team was an obvious underdog but only one half away from a shocking upset. As the players waited on the coach to enter the locker room, there was no enthusiasm in their expressions. They were tired and looked defeated. As the coach entered and scanned the room/players, he turned to the blackboard and wrote 118-24.
The coach then turned to the players and smiled, which sent shockwaves of confusion through the players, as they anticipated his halftime speech. The coach then spoke:
“This is the day The Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” – Psalm 118:24
He then encouraged his players that no matter the outcome that they should go out and play the second half like they love the game and each other.
I think we often forget this about life many times–that we should enjoy it and be glad within it.
