Daily Short-hOPT: Going Up A Mountain

“Being positive is like going up a mountain. Being negative is like sliding down a hill. A lot of times, people want to take the easy way out, because it’s basically what they’ve understood throughout their lives.” – Chuck D, Public Enemy

One of the greatest lessons I have learned in my 34 years is that it is much easier to be negative than positive. Positivity takes work. It’s unfortunate, but it is reality. Think about it. Which route is easier? Talking negatively behind someone’s back or taking the time to get to know someone that is different and admiring them for those differences?

Chuck D’s quote illustrates this point. Possessing true positivity is an uphill battle. Not only do you have to fight against your own predisposed attitudes, but against the attitudes of others. That’s the mountain to climb. Negativity is the slide down the hill. It’s simple. It’s the easy way out. We should all challenge ourselves to be better.

Have an awesome Friday,
-A.
